Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program offers Elkhart and St. Joseph County residents, aged 60 years and over, the opportunity to serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers for at risk/special needs children and youth in our community. Foster Grandparents volunteer 20 hours of weekly service in local organizations such as: schools, Head Start and day care centers.
Through this intergenerational program, income-eligible participants receive:
- A tax-free stipend totaling $210.00 per month (or more) which will not effect Medicaid, Social Security or subsidized housing benefits
- Paid time off for holidays, sick and vacation days
- Free daily lunch
- Transportation provided at no cost to Foster Grandparents
- On the job insurance
- Opportunity to impact the community and make new friends
