Social Services Block Grant
Social Services Block Grant, or SSBG, funding is available to all residents of Indiana over the age of 18 years old who have impairments in their Activity of Daily Living (ADL) activities, or impairments with their Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL). These impairments can hinder the individual with eating or food preparation, transferring, changing clothes, bathing, managing bowel and bladder functioning, ambulating activities, shopping for groceries, traveling in a car/van, taking medication, calling the telephone operator even with special equipment, taking care of grooming and personal hygiene, financial management of basic activities, such as food, clothing, or light work around the house, such as washing dishes. Services must be used to help maintain the individual’s independence and enhance their community living situation.
There are no income limits for the SSBG program. However, there is a cost-share provision. Individuals who are at or above a certain income are required to pay a portion of the services received. Individuals who are at or below 150% of poverty after certain allowable deductions are exempted from cost-share provision, as are all individuals who are on Medicaid.
Services Available: Case Management, Adaptive Aides, Adult Day Services, Attendant Care, Home Health Aides, Homemaker, Home Modifications, Personal Emergency Response Systems, Respite, Skilled Nursing, Supplies, Transportation. Services will be provided to the individual who qualifies, not to anyone else in the household.
